Organisational unit types
An organisational unit type is a kind of unit below a book — a region, a branch, a desk. Your organisation decides what the list holds, and how the units nest.
The type decides where a unit can sit in the tree and whether it services accounts.
What an organisational unit type carries

| Label | What people read on screen. Rename it whenever the wording should change. |
| Numbering scheme | How new units of this type are numbered. |
| Parent types | The types a unit of this type can sit under. Empty means a root unit. |
| Services accounts | Whether accounts can be booked against a unit of this type. Set when you create it. |
| Active | Whether the type is offered when someone creates a unit. |
Whether a type services accounts is fixed once you create it, because the servicing rule is baked in when a unit is created. The parent types you can change.
Adding an organisational unit type
Creating an organisational unit type is staged from the start. Open the draft from the bar at the top of the screen before you add one.
- Go to Settings, then Organisational Unit Types.
- Select New Organisational Unit Type.
- Enter a Name, such as
Branch. - Enter a Label, such as “Branch”.
- Enter a Numbering scheme.
- Choose the Parent types, or leave them empty for a root unit.
- Set Services accounts if units of this type carry accounts.
- Select Create.
- Submit the draft from the bar to publish it.
The property schema
Open a type to see its Property Types — fields you capture on every unit of that type. Add, edit and remove them on that panel. A property’s Kind is fixed once it exists; its label and whether it is required you can change.
Retiring an organisational unit type
Deactivate is the everyday choice. Clear Active on the type. It disappears from the create-unit screen, so nobody creates a new unit of it. Units already created keep working.
Remove deletes the type, for one created by mistake.
