Organisational units

An operating entity is the book an account is kept in. An organisational unit is where inside your own organisation the account is serviced: a division, a region, an office, a branch.

Units form a tree below the book. The shape is yours to configure. A unit type says what a unit may be — whether it services accounts, and which type of unit it may sit under.

The organisation tree

Open an operating entity and choose the Organisation tab. The tree shows every unit below that book, each with its code and status. Select a unit to open it.

To add a unit, use Register unit at the top for a top-level unit, or the + beside a node to register a child under it. Only unit types the parent admits are offered — an office cannot be registered directly under the book if its type sits under a region.

A newly registered unit is a draft. Activate it from its own header once its details are right. An account can only be serviced at an open unit.

Closing a unit

Close a unit from its header. A unit cannot close while:

• an account is still serviced there — move those accounts first; or
• it has an open child unit — close the children first.

The refusal names what is blocking it.

Statement stationery

A statement for an account serviced at a unit shows that unit’s own address and contact where it has them, and falls back to the operating entity’s for anything the unit does not set. A servicing branch’s address on the footer, the bank’s phone beneath it, is a valid result.

Moving an account

An account is not edited into a unit through its properties. It is moved by the Transfer action, which is dated and posts a ledger reclassification. See Transferring an account between units.
